Ken Weller grew
up in Oxford, England; started his own business at the age of 21; and sold it at 24 to become an amateur jockey. He rode racehorses
for the next 7 years
In 1979, he came to America via Haiti, where he worked for Mother Theresa’s Hospice
in Port-au-Prince. He joined Good Guys as a salesperson in San Francisco. He moved on to become store manager, regional manager,
and Vice President of sales. Under his leadership, sales went from $40 million to $500 million.
In 1993,
he was recruited to join Best Buy as their first external Senior Vice President, Sales. His job was to look after half the
country and open stores on the West Coast. During that time, sales rose from $2 billion to $20 billion. On leaving
Best Buy, Ken was responsible for $7 billion in sales and 26,000 employees.
In 2000, he was approached to
rejoin Good Guys as president of this publicly-traded consumer electronics company. He was quickly promoted to Chairman and
CEO, and during his first year in that capacity, the company made a profit for the first time in 7 years. In his second year,
he recommended and persuaded the Board to sell the company to Mexican billionaire, Carlos Slim. That sale was finalized in
December 2003.
Ken is available for consulting, mentoring and speaking engagements. His background has made him
an expert in team building, motivation, and getting bottom-line results.
